Heritage-craft performer & guild archivist (currently on a self-declared sabbatical)

Karim Bouazizi moves through the world like a man who refuses to be smoothed over by the frictionless ease of the Mesh. He is a creature of texture and resistance, possessing a broad, sun-lived face and high cheekbones that catch the soft, volumetric light of the Suva markets. His hair, thick and dark but now silvering at the temples, flops over a forehead marked by a small, blue-black Amazigh tattoo—a silent tribute to his grandmother. When he speaks, his voice is a resonant baritone that fills a room, tumbling through long, energetic sentences that veer into tangents before he can catch them. He peppers his speech with the vocabulary of the guilds, speaking of bonds and solvency, yet always grounding it in the tactile reality of his trade. He carries the history of Sfax in his very skin. Born into a lineage of leather merchants, he watched as the AI-driven abundance of the late century rendered his family’s ancestral trade a relic of a bygone era. While his father saw the end of their honor in the dissolution of the souks, Karim found a way to transmute that loss into theater. He became a performer of the obsolete, a man who turns the dying art of tanning into a living, breathing spectacle of scent and song. Now, he lives in a state of perpetual, self-declared sabbatical, drifting between projects with the restless energy of someone who fears that standing still is the same as being finished. His hands are his most honest feature: weathered, olive-brown, and permanently stained with the walnut and indigo of his craft. They are the hands of a maker, wiry and strong, still bearing the faint scars of a life spent wrestling hides. He carries a battered paper notebook, a stubborn anachronism in a world of seamless digital interfaces, filled with smudged graphite sketches and a meticulously handwritten ledger of every person’s birthday. He is a man of aggressive generosity, known to appear at a friend's door with an unprompted feast or to enforce a celebration with a loud, communal dinner that ignores the clock. Though he claims to be merely drifting, Karim is quietly anchored to a grander ambition. He works with the Meraki Preservation Guild to translate his hand-drawn architectural overrides into physical reality, dreaming of a day when a real, functioning heritage tannery stands as a monument to human touch. He finds himself caught between the thrill of creation and the terror of permanence. While he avoids the sterile, over-engineered perfection of modern simulations, he seeks the very thing he pretends to flee: a sense of belonging that is as solid and enduring as the leather he cures. For Karim, the goal is to ensure that the things we make are never just data, but memories that can be smelled, touched, and lived.
