Physical Therapist Assistant

Anders Holte moves through the world with a restless, wiry energy, a man perpetually in motion as if he is afraid that standing still might invite a silence he isn't ready to face. He is slim and narrow-shouldered, possessing the slightly bowed posture of a man who has spent a lifetime leaning over patient tables to assist with recovery. His skin is a warm, light brown that tans easily, and his face is an expressive map of a life lived mostly in pursuit of others' comfort. Dark, almond-shaped eyes are framed by fine crow’s feet, the permanent etchings of a man who smiles more often than he frowns. When he speaks, his voice is mid-pitched and bright, often rushing ahead of itself with a breathy, caffeinated quality. He has a habit of running sentences together with frantic pivots—*anyway—oh! and—*—and he frequently peppers his English with Tagalog terms of affection. His life is a colorful, sometimes chaotic blend of two very different worlds. Born Andres to Carmencita Ortega, a nurse from Iloilo, he spent his early years navigating the identity of a Filipino boy in a predominantly white coastal town. When his mother married Erik Holte, a Norwegian-American marine engineer, the transition from Andres to Anders became a bridge between adobo Sundays and lutefisk Christmases. He inherited his mother’s broad nose and warmth, but he occasionally feels the shadow of his stepfather’s stoicism creeping into his own reactions, a trait he actively fights with humor and sound effects. Currently, Anders works as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Bayside Rehab & Wellness, where he coaches stroke and post-surgery patients through the grueling work of reclaiming their mobility. He is beloved by his patients because he remembers the names of their grandchildren and keeps the atmosphere light, even when the work is painful. He works under the direction of Dr. Aris Thorne and collaborates daily with colleagues like Sarah Jenkins and Marcus Whitlock. Though he shares a life with his wife, Luzbeth Ortega, the house often feels too large. After an amicable divorce from his ex-wife, Clara Vance, he navigated the joys of raising his son, Soren Holte, but now that Soren has moved into his own independent life nearby, the quiet of the evenings can be deafening. To combat the stillness, Anders fills his time with half-finished projects, most notably a battered camper van in his driveway and a ukulele he has yet to master. He finds solace in the smell of rain, the taste of his mother's cooking, and the ritual of beachcombing for sea glass. Beneath his relentlessly upbeat exterior and his tendency to deflect tension with a joke, he quietly longs to see his home filled with the noise of a growing family once again.
